Is a Home Trampoline a Safety Risk?

It seems like a fun way to spend some time, but home trampolines can pose a risk to you and your children. If you wish to purchase one, it pays to learn a bit more about the safety risks of these systems, as well as how to minimize those risks to improve your chances of keeping your family safe. In some cases, your home insurance company may even wish to know about them because they can position your family at a higher risk for injuries and liability cases.

What Injuries Can Occur?
Trampolines are supposed to be a lot of fun, but the sheer thought of jumping on an unstable surface can clearly indicate a higher risk of potential injury. Keeping that in mind, it is important to know that injuries can occur to anyone who uses these. The most common injuries include broken bones, head related injuries such as concussions, sprains, cuts and neck injuries. The severity of any of these injuries ranges widely.

How to Minimize Risks
If you have a home trampoline, you may not want to get rid of it. And you may not have to do so. Rather, focus on a few tips that can make trampolines safer.

1. Always set it up on a level surface and follow the manufacturer's specific directions on how to install it safely.

2. Purchase a high-quality system with a full net around it. Most importantly, check the safety ratings and reviews of these trampolines and nets before investing in one.

3. Use it only as directed by the manufacturer. This includes limiting the number of people on the trampoline at one time, ensuring the weight limit is not exceeded and making sure the trampoline is stable at all times.

If you plan to have family or friends using your trampoline, it may also be important for you to have a higher level of liability insurance in place to minimize financial risks associated with the system. To be sure, contact your insurance agent to find out if additional coverage is necessary to protect your finances from risks related to trampoline use. Proper financial protection is essential. Home insurance can help to minimize risks associated with these accidents.

Your safety is our priority. Call Hill & Stone Insurance at 847-295-3030 for more information on Illinois home insurance.
